Glenda N. Cox Makes History as the First Grenadian to Win a Primetime Emmy
On September 12, 2022, Glenda N. Cox made history as the first Grenadian to win a Primetime Emmy. She won the award for her work as Executive Producer on Lizzo’s Watch Out For the Big Grrrls, which also won Best Competition Series at the prestigious awards ceremony. What makes this win even more remarkable is that the series was produced by an all-female team and beat out Ru Paul’s Drag Race, which has won in excess of ten Emmys.
Since winning the Primetime Emmy, the series has gone on to win countless awards in the 2023 season, including an NAACP Award and the prestigious Producers Guild Award, bringing more accolades to Glenda and her team.
Glenda’s passion for storytelling started at a young age and has carried her throughout her career. She was born in Grenada, lived in Trinidad during her early years, and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York with her 15-year-old daughter. After getting her Bachelor of Arts in English and Mass Communications at Virginia State University, she moved to Hollywood to pursue her dreams.
Glenda’s career in the entertainment industry began as a Writer’s Assistant on several projects for Paramount and Disney while attending screenwriting classes at UCLA. She has worked with many production companies and networks, including BRAVO, VH-1, MTV Networks, The Food Network, TLC, LIFETIME, OWN, PEACOCK, AMAZON PRIME, and most recently, HULU.
Throughout her career, Glenda has worked with many movers and shakers in the industry, including Oprah, Spike Lee, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Nanette Burstein, Joel Stillerman, and Lizzo.
As the first Grenadian to win a Primetime Emmy, Glenda’s historic win serves as an inspiration to aspiring storytellers everywhere.
